About Coffee - Some Facts - some thoughts

Coffee and Caffeine

Coffee, Tea, Chocolate - A cup of brewed coffee contains between 60 and 200mg of caffeine, instant coffee contains 60 to 100mg.

Tea in addition , contains tannin, which is a contributing factor in constipation, a cup of tea contains 30 to 70mg of caffeine.

Analgesics, painkillers, headache powders, slimming preparations and common cold remedies may contain between 30 and 100mg of caffeine.

Cocoa, can contain up to 50mg of caffeine.

Caffeine intake of between 300 and 500mg can cause headache, nervousness, tremors and general irritability.

An intake of 1000mg can cause mental confusion, shivering, vomiting and extreme anxiety states.

A 10,000mg dose can be fatal.

Caffeine is a stimulant of hydrochloric acid secretions in the stomach. Caffeine has been linked with many health problems:

Cystic Breast Disease, Coronary Artery Disease and Hypertension, Birth defects, Cancer, particularly of the Bladder and Pancreas.
Coffee is a drug and it is habit forming.

On the positive side, caffeine in controlled dosage can be used to overcome certain ailments.
It helpsdigestion by improving weak stomach acid production, and is therefore commonly served after dinner. It can help activity, concentration, witch makes it slightly adictive..
It has a minimal affect on relieving mild Asthma attacks.
Coffee is not good on an empty stomach....

Chocolate and Cocoa are among the foods highest in calories. Besides caffeine, they contain high amounts of Oxalic Acid, which renders calcium useless for assimilation. This means double trouble for teeth. Certainly not a desired treat for children.

Tea on the other hand has many positive attributes, which unfortunately are spoiled by processing.

Switch over to a nice cup of "green tea", which is low in tannin and caffeine but because of the poly phenol's it contains, is anti-carcinogenic, anti-bacterial and anti-viral. It strengthens the walls of blood vessels while keeping them soft and inhibits cholesterol absorption.

Rule One; drink it green and not too hot. - Herbal tea is also highly recommended.

Your daily caffeine intake should not be above a moderate consumption,
which is 300-500mg per day.

The maximum safe intake level for caffeine differs between health authorities, but is in the range 400 mg to 600 mg per day. - The recommended maximum caffeine intake for pregnant women is 300mg per day, but I suggest less... it makes the baby kick :-)
